Former Paris Saint-Germain star Ezequiel Lavezzi was hospitalised after he was stabbed during a family dispute, reported South American media El Observador on Tuesday.
He was taken to Sanatorio Cantegril de Maldonado Hospital with an abdominal wound. While official reports have not stated how the Argentinian got injured, family sources insisted that the 38-year-old injured himself as he slipped off a leader while changing a light bulb.
However, conflicting reports have emerged since the incident as El Observador, a reliable Uruguayan news outlet, cited police sources while reporting that the former Napoli star was stabbed by a family member during a party.
The same outlet reported that the incident happened over a “money” matter.
On the other hand, Clarin, the largest newspaper in Argentina and second-most circulated in the Spanish news world, said that the local police haven’t yet confirmed a stabbing incident.
“There is still no official report from the clinic and the severity of the 38-year-old former football player's condition is unknown,” the publication has stated.
Lavezzi is still under treatment and more details will come out once the former footballer is discharged from the hospital.
It must be noted that Lavezzi is hailed as a legend in two clubs notably, SSC Napoli and PSG.
The former striker played 188 games for Napoli where he netted 48 goals and 56 assists, emerging as the club’s finest players during the last decade. He also won the Italian Cup in 2012 with the club.
However, his most successful time came at the French club, PSG, where he represented the club in 161 matches scoring 35 goals and 24 assists.
The 38-year-old won the league title four times, the French League Cup 3 times, the French Cup 2 times, and the French Super Cup once.
He also won the gold medal with Argentina in the 2008 Olympics.
